Challenge
As part of the local government’s initiative to transform villages in Maharashtra to align with the U.N’s Sustainable Development Goals, The Village Social Transformation Foundation sought to bring access to clean, drought-resistant drinking water to school children.
Students at Zilla Parishad Primary School Kolpimpri lacked access to safe drinking water, relying instead on poor-quality water from hand pumps. What’s more, with the school located in a region prone to severe drought, they needed a resilient solution that did depend on existing surface water supplies or extract already scarce water resources.
SOURCE Project
In collaboration with SOURCE® and the Village Social Transformation Foundation, Global Power Source coordinated the installation of 6 Hydropanels with volunteers from the village. Installed on the rooftop and connected to a classroom dispenser, the school now provides students clean, reliable drinking water despite drought.
